The Milk Block will be home to the Wasatch Cooperative Market’s very first brick and mortar location in Salt Lake City. The grocery store is owned by more than 900 community members, and has been in search of a home since 2009. The store’s sections will include: dairy, produce, frozen foods, meat and fish, bulk foods, seasonal items, dry goods, and wellness and care.
The co-op’s mission is to improve and secure Utah’s food system, so the market will not only focus on local foods and goods, but on sustainably sourced food as well. This provides local ranchers and farmers with a more reliable business model to expand their businesses and encourage a greater variety of producers to get on board.
The store also anticipates contracting with other co-ops in order to produce items that cannot grow in Utah’s climate. The market offers a walkable destination with products that patrons can trust, and with a shopping experience unlike any other in the Salt Lake area.
We hope you’re as excited as we are to welcome them to the Milk Block family.
Before the conception of the Milk Block…before the Wasatch Cooperative Market…there was Manoli’s.
Manoli’s has been a staple of the 900 South neighborhood since 2015. They’ve been featured on a number of renowned food and restaurant lists since their opening, which includes a number of articles from The Salt Lake Tribune featuring their establishment. Manoli’s earned themselves a spot on Salt Lake Magazine’s 2024 Best Restaurants. In 2018, Salt Lake Magazine included the restaurant on its list of Dining Award Winners. In 2017, Manoli’s made Time Magazine’s Best Restaurants in Every State list as well as a mention on Zagat’s 10 Reasons to Drive to Salt Lake City.
Manoli’s uses fresh, local, and seasonal products to produce their own interpretation of Greek cuisine. All dishes are prepared from scratch as they incorporate a variety of styles and techniques into their cooking. As a local restaurant, they strongly believe in preparing small plates that allow customers more variety and more opportunity to share.
They continue to give locals a reason to come together and indulge in two of man’s most prized possessions, food and community.
The Milk Block is not whole without our friends at Manoli’s. We’re grateful to them for all they’ve done and continue to do for Salt Lake.
Hours of Operation:
Manoli’s is open for dinner from 5pm to 10pm (Tue-Sun). They’re also open for breakfast from 10am to 2:30pm (Sat-Sun).
Basalt Day Spa is also one of the Milk Block’s original family members. They first opened in November of 2015.
Basalt has been written about in a number of Utah based publications including a featured piece in Park City Magazine and a mention on Best Things Utah in a piece titled, The 8 Best Spas in Utah. They were also listed as City Weekly’s Best Day Spa and Wellness Center in 2022.
Basalt is committed to taking care of their customers. They are inspired by nature and are dedicated to wellness. In an effort to share this vision with others, they offer a number of customized treatments for the mind and body. Their services include a variety of body massages, skincare, and waxing/tinting.
The spa’s name originates from the heated basalt stones that are incorporated into every service.
We’re thrilled that Basalt continues be involved with the Milk Block on this journey.
Hours of Operation:
Basalt Day Spa is open from 10am to 8pm (Mon-Fri) and from 10am to 6pm (Sat-Sun).
Mozz was conceptualized in the fall of 2018 by Jared, Erin, and Brett. In March of 2019, they’d open their very first brick-and-mortar in Downtown Provo after completing construction on their hand-crafted, wood-fired oven of 22,222 total tiles. They’ve since celebrated the opening of two additional locations, and will be opening their fourth at the Milk Block in summer of 2025.
Mozz’s menu provides a range of offerings that include: locally sourced meats, cheeses, vegetables, and drinks to hand made ricotta and mozzarella. They make their mozzarella in house using milk and curds from Gold Creek Farms in Kamas, Utah, and their dough is naturally leavened using an 18 year old culture and additionally cold fermented for 72 hours to provide the best flavors possible. They named their own pizza establishment after a cheese for god’s sake! If that’s not enough reason to go, we’re not sure what is.
Mozz is represented by wonderful people. We’re so grateful to be partnering with them.
Mozz currently has three other locations. One in Provo at 145 North University Ave, 84601. Another in South Jordan at 10420 South Rubicon Rd. Suite B101, 84009. And one in Salt Lake at 700 South 545 West Suite 104, 84101.
Hours of Operation:
Mozz’s Provo location is open from 12pm to 9pm (Mon-Sat) and from 12pm to 8pm on Sundays.
Mozz’s Daybreak location is open from 12pm to 9pm (Sun-Sat).
Mozz’s Salt Lake location is open from 11:3am to 9pm (Tue-Thu) and from 11:30am to 10pm (Fri-Sat).
The Yee brothers—Dwight and Derrick that is—alongside Romina Rasmussen started Xiao Bao Bao, a Chinese bao shop, back in October of 2023. Romina joined the twins after closing her beloved French baker, Les Madeleines, after almost 20 years in business. The trio came together to create a shop that reflected their own personal experiences with bao, centered around convenience and fun. The recipes are their own as the Yees brought their knowledge of their grandmother’s bao to the table while Romina brought her extensive pastry background as well as her combined six years of living in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Xiao Bao Bao is the perfect place to stop in for something fresh and to take with you as you walk around. They also offer frozen packs of bao that can be steamed or reheated at home. We’re so excited to have Xiao Bao Bao expand The Milk Block’s culinary horizons.
Xiao Bao Bao’s brick and mortar at The Milk Block won’t open until summer of 2025, so be sure to visit their current location in Salt Lake at 216 East 500 South, 84111.
Hours of Operation:
Xiao Bao Bao is open from 10:30am to 2:30pm and from 4pm to 7pm (Tue-Thu). 10:30am to 7pm (Fri-Sat). Closed Sunday and Monday.
Formed in 2001, Equality Utah is the largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender advocacy group in the state. They have a vision of a fair and just Utah and their mission is to secure equal rights and protections for LGBTQ Utahns and their families. They’re an IRS 501(c)(4) organization that leads efforts for LGBTQ civil rights at the state and local level through the sponsoring of LGBTQ legislation, opposing negative bills, lobbying elected officials, building coalitions, and empowering individuals and organizations alike to engage in the legislative process.
The Equality Utah Foundation also provides workshops and presentations to Utah businesses through their Business Equality Leader program. This helps to create belonging and community for all in the workplace.
Equality Utah’s offices at The Milk Block will be their new headquarters and their first ever private space to operate out of. We’re very excited to be partnering with a nonprofit organization that practices and preaches the values of belonging and togetherness, which The Milk Block holds dear.
